John Cabra

Associate Professor

John is an Associate Professor at the State University of New York College at Buffalo’s International Center for Studies in Creativity and a Visiting Professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga, Colombia where as part of a team he focuses on teaching and researching the science of creativity, training and developing leadership, and facilitating creative thinking and problem solving. He is also an associate at KnowInnovation and a Fulbright Scholar.

Organizations that have benefited from his training and facilitation include: IBM, Mattel Toys, Transitions Optical, Quaker Oats, Pfizer, ConAgra Foods, Kraft Foods, Coca Cola, Taca Airlines, United Airlines, Banamex Mexico, British Home Office, National Science Foundation, NASA, American Society of Microbiology, Universidad de La Sabana (Colombia), Drexel University, The Ohio State University, Purdue University, California State University at Fullerton, and Sheridan College (Canada). 

John was an operations manager for American Airlines in Buffalo, New York. He also held internal consulting and director positions for American Airlines in the fields of training and development, employee relations, and organizational development for its Miami, Caribbean, and Latin America division. Before joining American, he was a bilingual training and organizational development specialist for Fisher–Price Toys North American and Mexican Operations.

John earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from the University of Manchester, England, and a M.S. in Creativity and Change Leadership from the State University of New York. He co-authored journal articles and book chapters in business, technology, engineering and creativity. He is co-authoring a book titled, “Creativity and Innovation in Organizations: A Personal Guide for 21st Century Innovators”. He serves as an editorial board member of Creatividad y Sociedad, a creativity journal published at the University of Barcelona, Spain.  In recognition for his work as an expert in the field of creativity, he was awarded the Buffalo State College President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and grants from the National Foundation and the State University of New York.
